Silicon Window
Mono crystalline silicon (Si) is a chemically inert material that is hard and insoluble in water. It has excellent light transmission in the 1.2-7 μm band and is a commonly used infrared optical material. The low density of silicon (half of density of germanium or zinc selenide) makes it particularly suitable for weight-sensitive applications. Due to its good thermal conductivity and low density, it is often used to make laser mirrors or infrared thermometry and thermal imaging windows, with or without coating. With a density of 2.316g/㎝³ and a hardness of 1150 Nucleus, mono crystalline silicon is less fragile than germanium.
