Water Jet Cutting Nozzle

Precision and Quick Cutting

Ruby and sapphire orifice nozzle used as water-jet provides  precise hole and the optimum edge rounding. It provides the long life of the nozzle. The water can be shaped into a thin water jet of 0.08 to 0.4 mm diameter under up to 4000 bar in pressure and leaves the nozzle at a high speed

Pure water jet cutting

This type of water cutting suitable for quick cutting of soft materials, such as foam, insulation, rubber, sealing material, paper and much more

Abrasive cutting

This type of jet is by adding addition of an abrasive in water to increase the power of the water stream to cut harder materials, such as special garnet sand. Even steel, natural stone, ceramic, plastic, glass, carbon and much more can thus be cut perfectly.

Micro Cutting

With a diameter of 0.25 mm orifice, the micro cutting systems are used for  cutting even the finest parts from titanium, brass, chromium steel and special functional steels. As well as polymers, ceramic and glass.   There are no heat transferred into the workpiece and the material structure is not influenced.

Our experienced engineers design components that match or even surpass OEM parts in performance and quality. Our in-house quality team ensures our parts meet high standards for durability and reliability, while our technical service team provides the expertise needed to get you back in production quickly. These advantages set us apart from competitors, making us a leading supplier of waterjet replacement parts, committed to delivering the best products and services to our customers.

Ruby Nozzles: A Simple Guide

Basic Principles

When it comes to high-pressure showers or trimming nozzles, impact is crucial. The more forceful the water jet is when it hits the target, the better it performs. Essentially, water jets transfer kinetic energy (KE) to the surface. The more effectively this energy is transferred, the better the outcome. Pressure is a key factor affecting this transfer. If other variables like nozzle size are constant, higher pressure results in higher velocity and more KE. However, simply increasing pressure to boost performance isn't always practical, as it also increases water usage, leading to waste and higher costs.

Importance of Precision

For effective cleaning or cutting, it's not just the total KE of the water jet that matters, but how much KE is transferred per unit area. If the water jet sprays at the wrong angle or misses the target, energy is wasted. Therefore, the integrity of the water jet on impact is vital. A dispersed spray pattern dilutes KE over a larger area, reducing impact. Additionally, turbulence in the water flow decreases its effectiveness. In turbulent flows, energy is misdirected, reducing the impact on the target surface. Ideally, water molecules should travel in a straight line to the target, but real-world conditions make this difficult. Reducing turbulence improves performance.

The Nature of Water Flows

Water flows are chaotic systems, meaning they are highly sensitive to initial conditions. Small imperfections in the nozzle can quickly lead to larger issues, increasing turbulence. To minimize this, nozzle orifices should be as smooth as possible. In reality, no material is perfect, but pure crystals, like diamonds, come close. Diamonds are incredibly hard but expensive, so rubies (or sapphires) are used instead. Both are corundum crystals (Al2O3) and have the same hardness, despite different colors.

Why Ruby Orifices Are Smooth

Rubies don't naturally form perfect nozzle orifices. Instead, they are grown in tubes, cut into discs, and then bored into nozzles using high-powered lasers. These lasers create precise, smooth holes without damaging the material, resulting in an almost perfect finish.

Benefits of Smooth Ruby Nozzles

Ruby nozzles last longer than ceramic or metal ones, but not all rubies are the same. Some wear less due to better manufacturing processes. Water can wear down any material over time, starting with small imperfections that grow larger, accelerating wear. Smoother ruby nozzles produce less turbulence and are more resistant to wear.

Tips for Selecting and Using Ruby Nozzles

1. Choose a Quality Manufacturer: Sophisticated laser techniques and diamond polishing are needed to work with rubies. High-quality manufacturing leads to longer-lasting nozzles.

2. Regularly Check for Wear: All nozzles wear out, especially under high pressure. Increasing pressure to compensate for wear is inefficient and can worsen the problem. Have your setup checked by the supplier if unsure.

3. Consider Other Materials: While ruby nozzles are the most durable, they are also the most expensive. For some applications, ceramic or metal nozzles might be more suitable. A good supplier will offer a range of options and advise on the best choice for your needs.

Key Takeaways:

1. **Effective energy transfer is crucial for cleaning and cutting performance.**

2. **Pressure is a major factor, but simply increasing it can waste water and money.**

3. **Smooth nozzle orifices and reduced turbulence improve water jet performance.**

4. **Ruby nozzles offer durability and precision due to their manufacturing process.**

5. **Choosing a quality manufacturer and regular maintenance are essential for optimal nozzle performance.**

Understanding these points helps highlight the advantages of ruby nozzles in high-pressure applications and the importance of proper selection and maintenance.
