Round sapphire windows protect lasers, cameras and sensors where scratch resistance and mechanical strength matter. They are used as protective windows and viewports in optical, vacuum and high-pressure systems. Sapphire’s high modulus of rupture can allow a thinner window than optical glass, subject to the design and operating conditions.
